Members of the Mexican Association to Promote Electric Vehicles (AMIVE) met for the second time with Doctor Islas and his team to follow up on the conversations that began in February of this year.
On this occasion, AMIVE presented its vision about what is needed for the electric mobility sector to prosper. In this regard, AMIVE mentioned that Mexico must review its electric mobility goals for light vehicles and include clear goals for heavy vehicles. This will make it possible to meet the emissions reduction goals for the transportation sector to which Mexico has committed in its Nationally Determined Contributions and even increase the ambition of said goals in 2025 as mandated by the Paris Agreement. AMIVE wants to be an ally of the Government of Mexico to facilitate its arrival at the COP30 in Brazil with sufficient tools to increase its absolute goal, including a strong electric mobility component. In the process, we want to encourage all of Mexico to benefit from this technological and systemic change, promoting the economic development of all regions of the country while protecting our national electrical system and accelerating the energy transition.
To facilitate these efforts, AMIVE has structured three working committees:
- Norms and Standards Committee: Its objective is to review existing norms and standards, identifying and proposing those that are missing as well as potential improvements to existing ones. Its main motivation is to seek security, certainty and a level playing field in the sector.
- Legislation and Public Policy Committee: the committee will carry out a review of the instruments that have been generated and signed by the Government of Mexico related to electric mobility with a view to generating proposals for articulation, updating and integration.
- Communication, Dissemination and Information Committee: the committee will seek to generate and analyze information and data that promote the dissemination of the benefits and challenges that the transition to electric mobility means to the Mexican population.
The members of AMIVE also spoke with Doctor Islas about the possibility of supporting small companies that wish to change their fleets to electric vehicles as well as the need to have incentives, financing options and a clear identification of the fleets that will be used. can replace.
When asking Doctor Islas about his recent statements about generation by isolated supply, Doctor Islas commented that this model allows greater energy capacities, mostly renewable, so it is a viable alternative to satisfy part of the demand for electric vehicles. at the same time we promote the energy transition. He assured that if they win the June election, they will work on a policy that will allow permits for isolated supply to be issued much faster. Likewise, he recognized that investment and improvements are needed in the country’s transmission networks.
Doctor Islas thanked AMIVE for the work he is doing. We agree to continue generating spaces for dialogue and exchange of information and to send you the Association’s proposals, hoping that these will serve the Government of Mexico in the process of increasing the country’s goals both in ambition and scope: with a view to the revision of the NDC Mexican in 2025 and to the review process of the TMEC.
