Last Tuesday, AMIVE affiliates met with Senator Indira Kempis to hold a dialogue on electric mobility. We took advantage of the last day of the legislature to review legislative progress and pending issues to promote the advancement of electric mobility in Mexico.
Among the pending issues, the need to update the General Law on Climate Change was mentioned to standardize the country’s goals in reducing emissions and include the need to have a National Electric Mobility Strategy. The Senator recognized the urgency of said process and commented that she is pushing for the update to happen soon.
Mention was also made of the need to explore greater tax incentives for all components and acquisition schemes of electric vehicles accompanied by policies that discourage or facilitate the use of internal combustion vehicles.
We also discussed the need to have support for SMEs, scrappage bonuses and graduated incentives that are linked to gradual goals.
The Senator also pointed out the need to invest in education at all levels so that Mexico becomes an international power in the electric mobility sector.
We agreed to meet again at the beginning of the new legislature to continue advancing in this important sector. We thank Senator Indira Kempis for the invitation to collaborate and dialogue.
