Last week, our director, Diana Avalos, had the honor of representing the Mexican Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (AMIVE) at the Global MoU Summit, convened by CALSTART, where leaders from around the world gathered to accelerate the electrification of medium and heavy-duty transportation.
Why is this issue so relevant to Mexico?
Because trucks and buses—although they only represent 25% of the national vehicle fleet—generate more than half of the transportation sector’s emissions. Globally, the impact of these vehicles on health and the climate continues to grow, and inaction will only exacerbate the problem.
Mexico has taken important steps: more than 1,690 zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles have been adopted, the portfolio of electric models has grown, and we have a growing charging network. However, clear goals are still lacking to decarbonize this crucial segment and join the Global Memorandum signed by 27 countries with the goal of achieving 100% zero-emission sales by 2040.
At AMIVE, we will continue promoting alliances, public policies, and projects that accelerate this just and urgent transition. Because the future of transportation in Mexico cannot wait.
