AMIVE EV Day 2025 brought together key players in electromobility in Mexico to explore the path toward more sustainable mobility in commercial fleets. At the event, held at the Mexican Stock Exchange, leading experts analyzed the progress and challenges in the transition to electric vehicles.
One of the key panels addressed electric fleets. Leaders such as Julio Hernández (Grupo Marva), Juan Carlos Abascal (Mobility ADO), Francisco Barnés (WRI México), and Felipe Gallego participated, highlighting that beyond incentives, corporate commitment is essential. They identified a main obstacle as cost, which can be up to three times higher than a combustion vehicle, but that the investment is worthwhile in the long term with political and economic certainties.
The public transportation sector leads the way with successful initiatives, such as Metrobús Line 3, promoted by ADO. In freight, companies such as Grupo Marva already have more than 100 electric trucks, demonstrating that willingness and private investment are key. However, it was also highlighted that one of the greatest challenges in the insurance sector is the lack of specific coverage and high repair costs, a barrier that is essential to address by working hand in hand with insurers. In this regard, Quálitas and Grupo Interesse shared in their panel the importance of developing new plans and clauses that support the specific needs of electric vehicles, especially in public and cargo transportation.
Regarding financing, the event featured valuable perspectives from Andrea Hurtado, General Director of Climate Action Policy at Semarnat (National Electricity and Energy Commission), Siddharta Flores of Nafin (Nafin), and Mariuz Calvet of Santander (Santander). Daniela Flores of Latnova, Diego González of Beyond, and Silvia Rojas of ASOMOVE shared their experiences in the design of charging infrastructure.
The event also featured a valuable presentation by Gustavo Jiménez of E-mobilitas on financing for charging infrastructure, noting that a robust charging network is key to accelerating adoption. In addition, Carlos Castro gave a keynote on the use of data and artificial intelligence, highlighting how these technologies can optimize fleet management, reduce costs, and improve safety.
Together, these advances show that electromobility in Mexico requires not only infrastructure and financing, but also close collaboration with insurers to overcome barriers in the insurance sector. Only then can we achieve a safe, efficient, and sustainable transition, transforming transportation for the benefit of all.
