On February 13, the Mexican Association to Promote Electric Vehicles AMIVE called on its members to participate in the Dialogues for the Fair Energy Transition with Teacher Rosanety Barrios, coordinator of the energy table of the work team of the pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Xóchitl Gálvez. They were accompanied by Roberto Remes and Edna Martínez Quintanilla, who collaborate on the innovation and climate change tables, respectively.
Teacher Rosanety explained the problems facing the Mexican energy sector, including the need to repower existing transmission lines and the bidding for new ones. She also addressed the need for greater penetration of renewables in the country to meet the growing energy demand. She shared that the vision of the candidate and her team towards electric mobility prioritizes public transportation because they believe that it allows it to impact a larger sector of the population. Likewise, she mentioned that respect for the rule of law and transparency are fundamental pillars to build a robust energy policy, capable of facing new challenges. For her part, Edna Martínez Quintanilla expressed that it is necessary to incorporate a circular economy component for batteries, as well as have policies for the scrapping and reconversion of combustion vehicles to electric, to make more efficient use of resources.
AMIVE associates shared their vision about the electric mobility sector and the challenges they face as part of the ecosystem of this sector. Among other points, they highlighted the need to expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and increase the capacity of the electrical network. They agreed that public policy instruments and adequate regulation and standards are key to continuing the orderly development of the sector.
The event was organized by AMIVE with the support of COMEXI.
